Mystery Film 22

Congratulations to Zena and Richard on Facebook, who knew last week's mystery film was of course the Disney classic 'The Lion King'. Featuring award-winning score by Hans Zimmer with songs from Elton John and Tim Rice and now a West End and Broadway musical, The Lion King is consistently voted one of the world'd favourite Disney films of all time. the first Disney film to be written as an original story rather than being heavily based on one inspirational work, it is the highest-grossing hand-drawn film to date from any studio.

About the Project

The Regal Cinema in Tenbury Wells opened in 1937, providing film entertainment for the people of Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire. Over the years it has been an important and much-loved part of the town, growing to include an enlarged stage and a community centre.

Supported by a grant of over £680,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, renovation works took place between October 2011 and Summer 2012 to restore and repair many of the traditional features that still exist in the cinema today. Exquisitely painted original murals by George Legge, the 1930s auditorium lighting scheme and parquet flooring are just some of the features that were re-instated during the restoration.

The cinema is now operated by the Regal Tenbury Trust, a charitable trust made up of volunteers from the town. The full programme of films, music and live events can be seen at www.regaltenbury.co.uk, with online booking available.
